Alright guys, I'm in the market for a new 18V drill driver. I've been a Dewalt guy for years, but I've heard Makita's brushless motors are the bees knees. I do a lot of cabinet installation and drilling into studs, so I need something reliable. Is Makita really worth the switch or am I just chasing hype?

Sam, I've been in renovation for 15 years and I've seen both. My Dewalt DCD791 has been through hell and back - dropped, covered in drywall dust, and it still drills like a champ. Makita's are good too, don't get me wrong, but Dewalt's chuck is way more durable. Plus, you already have batteries, right? Switching would cost you a fortune. Stick with Dewalt, you won't regret it.

Hey, I'm a Makita guy all the way. Their XFD131 has never let me down - lightweight, powerful, and the battery life is unreal. I've seen Dewalts overheat on long runs, but my Makita just keeps going. If you do a lot of drilling into hardwoods, you'll notice the difference. Plus, Makita's warranty is top notch. Just my two cents.

Hmm, both of you make good points. Dan, you're right about the battery investment - I've got a bunch of Dewalt batteries. But Larry, I've heard about the heat issue with some Dewalt models. I'm leaning toward trying Makita, but maybe I'll rent one first. Any advice on that?

Renting is a great idea, Sam. That way you can test it out without committing. Just make sure to use it on some tough jobs - like drilling into pressure-treated lumber. And pay attention to the ergonomics, because if it's not comfortable, you'll hate it after an hour. Good luck, man.
