My drill battery won't hold a charge!

Hey guys, new here. I've got a DeWalt 20V max drill, about 2 years old. The battery just died while I was drilling some holes, and now it won't charge. I plug it in, the light turns green for a second then goes red, and it gets warm. Any ideas? Is it toast?

Had the same thing happen to my older DeWalt. If it's getting warm, it's probably a bad cell or the charger is tripping a safety. First, try a different outlet and make sure the contacts are clean. If that doesn't work, you might need a new battery. But before you shell out cash, check the charger with another battery if you have one. If the charger is fine, it's the battery.

I agree with SawDust. Also check the battery's release tab and the connection points for any gunk. I once had a battery that wouldn't charge because of sawdust packed in the slot. Clean it with compressed air or a toothpick. If it's still dead, it might be time to recycle and get a new one. Batteries are consumables, especially after a few years.

If it's warm, I'd be careful. Could be a short. But yeah, try cleaning. I've resurrected batteries with a pencil eraser on the contacts. Also, what's the model number? Some older DeWalts had a recall on batteries. Check the label for a date code and see if it's affected.

Thanks guys, I'll try cleaning the contacts and checking the charger with another battery. The model is DCB204, but it's the older version. I'll look up the recall. If nothing, I'll just buy a new one. Appreciate the help!
