So I was drilling some metal brackets today, using my new cordless drill, and I forgot to put on my safety glasses. I know, I know, stupid mistake. A piece of metal shaving flew right into my eye. Luckily it was just a scratch, but it stung like crazy and I had to go to urgent care. The doc said I was lucky it didn't do more damage. So, PSA: always wear your PPE, even for quick jobs. You never know when something will fly at your face. Learn from my dumb mistake!

Man, sorry to hear that, Bob. Glad you're okay. I've had too many close calls myself. I've seen guys drill overhead with no glasses and get metal or dust in their eyes. Even if you're just drilling wood, splinters can fly. I'm a stickler for safety glasses now. I actually keep a pair in every tool bag, so I never have an excuse. Also, consider a full-face shield if you're doing a lot of grinding or overhead drilling. Better safe than sorry!

Yikes! That's why I always wear mine, even when I'm just doing a quick pilot hole. Sometimes I forget when I'm in a rush, but my husband always reminds me. A quick tip: get a pair that are comfortable and don't fog up. The cheap ones are annoying and you'll be tempted not to wear them. I have some with rubber grips and anti-fog coating, they're a game changer. Are you okay now?

Bob, thanks for the reminder. I've been in this trade for 20 years and I've seen it all. Eye injuries are no joke. I actually wear a full-face respirator when I'm using my pressure-treated lumber for decks – the dust is nasty. But I also recommend getting safety glasses with a side shield – they give more coverage. And if you're drilling overhead, a face shield is a must. I hope your eye heals up fast, and maybe this'll help someone else avoid the same trip to the ER. Stay safe out there!
