Hey all, just picked up a Bosch 18V cordless drill at a local clearance sale for $99. It's the brushed model, but normally these go for $150+. I've been using a cheap corded one for years. Is this worth keeping or should I return it and save up for a brushless?

Not bad, but brushless is the way to go if you're putting in long hours. I've burned through brushed motors on jobsites. But for DIY, it'll last you a while. $99 is a decent deal, but if you can swing an extra $50, you'll get a brushless with better battery life.

I'd keep it. For $99, that's a steal. I've got a brushed drill that's been going for 5 years with heavy weekend use. Just grab some extra batteries and you're set. Brushless is nice but not necessary for most of us.

I've been a DeWalt guy for decades, but Bosch makes good stuff. That drill will push through most things. Just don't try to mix it with a hole saw on a 1-inch bit - that'll make it smoke. I've seen it happen.

I agree with Chris. I'm a contractor, and I've had both. Brushless is more efficient and lighter. But for the money, that's a great starter drill. Keep it, and if you outgrow it, it'll serve as a backup. I'd say keep it and don't look back.
