So I was browsing Amazon tonight and saw the DeWalt 20V Max XR compact drill (DCD791) on sale for $99. Normally it's like $149-$179. I pulled the trigger because I've been needing a new drill and this seems like a steal. But now I'm second-guessing - is this too good to be true? Maybe it's a refurb or something? Anybody else seen this deal?

Nice find! That is a solid price for the DCD791. I've had one for a couple of years now, and it's been a workhorse. The brushless motor is pretty efficient, and the compact size fits in tight spots. As long as it's not a knockoff, you're good. I'd check the seller to see if it's Amazon direct or a third party. If it's sold by Amazon, it's likely legit. I've seen some crazy deals on there before, especially around holidays. You might've just gotten lucky!

I've been using DeWalt for 10+ years, and that drill is one of their best. $100 is a great price even if it's refurb, but make sure it comes with a warranty. If it's new, you're set for life. I'd buy two if I saw that deal! Just watch out for the 20V Max battery - make sure it's the real deal, not some cheap knockoff that comes in a bundle.

Thanks for the replies! It did say 'sold by Amazon.com' so I think it's legit. I also added a 2-pack of 5Ah batteries for $60, so I got a good system going. Now I just need to break it in. Any tips for first-time DeWalt users?

First thing, read the manual. Then, make sure you charge those batteries fully before first use. Also, practice with the clutch settings on some scrap wood so you don't strip screws. And always use the side handle for heavy drilling - your wrists will thank you. Other than that, just have fun and make some sawdust!
