Hey all, I'm planning to build a 12x16 deck next month. I have a basic cordless drill, but I think I need something more for driving all those deck screws. Should I get a dedicated impact driver, or a drill/driver combo kit? Budget is around $200. Thanks!

Go with a combo kit, no question. I've built dozens of decks with my Milwaukee M18 set. The impact driver will save your wrist on lag screws and the drill handles pilot holes. For $200 you can get a solid brushless set on sale. Just make sure it's at least 18V.

I agree with Larry. A combo is a game changer. I use my impact for everything from decking to cabinet assembly. One tip: get a 2Ah battery for the impact (lighter) and a 4Ah for the drill (more run time). Also, don't cheap out on bits - get a good hex shank set.

I'm a weekend warrior too. I got a Ryobi combo last year and it's been great for my deck and shed. Not as heavy-duty as Milwaukee but gets the job done. If you're on budget, Ryobi or Kobalt are fine. Make sure you get the quick-change chuck on the drill.

Deck screws are no joke. I built my shed with just a drill and regretted it. Impact driver is a must. But also think about a framing nailer if you're going to do a lot of framing - makes it so much faster. For your budget, maybe start with the combo and save for a nailer later.
