Hey guys, I'm trying to decide between the DeWalt DCD791 and Makita XFD131. Mainly for drilling into studs and some light framing. I've heard DeWalt has more torque but Makita feels better balanced. Anyone used both? Which one would you grab?

I've got the Makita XFD131 and it's sweet. Light weight and the handle is ergonomic. The DeWalt is a beast but heavy. If you're drilling overhead a lot, go Makita. But if you're just drilling into studs all day, DeWalt will get it done faster. My two cents.

Thanks Larry. Yeah weight is a concern for me since I do a lot of overhead work. But I don't wanna sacrifice power. How's the chuck on the Makita? I heard some people had wobble issues.

Just a heads up, check the safety features. The DeWalt has an e-clutch that stops the chuck if you jam it. Makita doesn't have that. Also, don't forget to wear gloves when drilling into metal – saw a guy get his hand caught once. Stay safe.

@BuildItBob755 The chuck on mine is fine, no wobble. But I read that early batches had issues. New ones are good. DeWalt's chuck is metal, Makita's is plastic-ish, so DeWalt might last longer. Honestly both are top-tier, you can't go wrong.
