Alright folks, I'm in the market for a new cordless drill and I'm torn between DeWalt and Makita. I do a lot of DIY projects at home, some light framing, and lots of furniture builds. I've heard mixed things about both. Anyone have experience with the 20V Max DeWalt vs the 18V LXT Makita? Looking for something that'll last and has good torque for driving long screws. What's your take?

You can't go wrong with DeWalt, mate. I've been using the 20V Max XR for years, and the precision is unmatched. The clutch settings are dead-on, perfect for when you need to drive screws without stripping. Plus, the brushless motor in the latest models is a beast. I've put mine through hell and it's still going strong. Makita is decent, but for pure accuracy and build quality, DeWalt takes the cake.

Honestly, both are top-tier. I've got a mix of both brands in my workshop. For driving long screws, the Makita has a bit more raw torque, especially with the 5.0Ah batteries. But the DeWalt feels more balanced in hand. My neighbor swears by Makita for heavy use, but for weekend stuff, I'd say go with whatever feels better in the store. Also, check the battery lineup - if you already have tools, stick with that brand to save on batteries.

If you're on a budget like me, you might wanna look at the aftermarket deals. I snagged a DeWalt kit with two 5.0Ah batteries for the price of one Makita battery. Yeah, Makita's nice, but the cost difference can be huge. For DIY, you don't need the absolute top tier. I've been using a DeWalt 20V Max for 5 years, dropped it, abused it, and it's still accurate enough for cabinet work. Just my two cents.

Thanks for the input guys! I was leaning towards Makita for the torque, but DeWaltDan makes a good point about precision. And SawDustSteve, that deal sounds tempting. I might just go with DeWalt since I can get a bigger kit for the same price. Appreciate the help!
