Hey folks, I'm looking at getting a new impact driver for framing and decks. Torn between the DeWalt DCF887 and Makita XDT16. I've heard good things about both. Anybody got experience with these? I mostly do weekend projects but want something that'll last.

I'd go DeWalt for the safety features, honestly. The DCF887 has that LED light that lasts and the magnetic bit holder is a nice touch. Makitas are solid but my buddy had one overheat after a long day of decking. Just my 2 cents.

Makita all the way for restoration work. I've restored 3 old houses with my XDT16 and it's still going strong. The variable speed trigger is buttery smooth for delicate stuff like removing old screws without stripping. DeWalt feels a bit brutish to me.

Contractor here. I run Makita on site, but both are great. The XDT16 has a shorter head which gets into tight spots better, and the quick-shift mode is awesome for knocking in screws. DeWalt's tri-beam LED is better though. If you don't need the compact size, you can't go wrong with either. Just get good batteries.
