I've been going back and forth between the DeWalt DCF887 and the Makita XDT16 for my new impact driver. Mostly for deck framing and heavy lifting. Anyone got experience with both? I need something that can handle big lag bolts without slowing down.

I've got the DeWalt DCF887 and it's a beast. Never used the Makita but my buddy swears by his. For the price, I'd say DeWalt gives you more bang for the buck. The Makita is usually like $50 more.

Go with the Makita XDT16 man. I do a lot of woodworking and it's got way more control. The 4-speed settings are perfect for not stripping screws. DeWalt is fine but feels more like a hammer. Makita is smoother.

Thanks guys. I was leaning towards DeWalt for the price but now I'm second-guessing. Rick, any issues with the DeWalt stripping screws? Mike, how's the Makita on bigger bolts?

I've stripped a few but that might be me being careless. No more than other drivers I've used. If you really care about precision, maybe Makita is better. But for big bolts, I bet both handle it fine.
