Hey guys, I'm in the market for a new impact driver. I've been using a cheap no-name for years and it's finally giving up. I'm stuck between the DeWalt DCF887 and the Makita XDT16. I do a lot of deck building and furniture projects on the weekends. Any advice? Which one has better torque and battery life?

Hands down, go with the Makita XDT16. I use it daily on job sites, and it's never let me down. The torque is insane, and the new XGT line has even better brushless motors. Battery life is stellar too. I've dropped mine off ladders, kicked it, and it still works like a champ. Plus, Makita's ergonomic design is way better on your wrist after a long day. You won't regret it.

Idk what Mike's smoking, but the DCF887 is a beast. I've been a DeWalt guy for 20 years, and their impacts are built to last. The 887 has 1,825 in-lbs of torque, which is more than enough for anything you DIY. Plus, with the PowerStack batteries, you get more power and they're lighter. And let's be real, DeWalt's yellow and black just looks cooler in the workshop. Makita's teal is ugly, lol.

As a collector, I've owned both brands. Honestly, they're both top-tier. But the real difference is in the details. Makita has a more precise mode on their impact, which is great for driving screws without stripping. DeWalt's tool is also good, but the Makita XDT16 has a brushless motor that runs cooler and lasts longer. For weekend projects, you can't go wrong with either, but if you want to future-proof, I'd lean Makita. Also, Makita's battery system is more versatile across their tools.
