Hey all, I'm looking to upgrade my impact driver and I'm torn between the DeWalt DCF887 and the Makita XDT16. I mostly do deck work and some light framing. Anyone have experience with both? Which one has better torque and battery life?

I've got both in my collection. The Makita has a bit more control with the 4-speed settings, but the DeWalt hits harder out of the box. Battery life is similar, but the Makita's handle is more comfortable for extended use. If you're doing decks all day, I'd go Makita. But for raw power, DeWalt wins.

Don't forget about the ergonomics. I had the DeWalt but switched to Makita because it felt better in my hand. Also, the Makita's brushless motor is a bit quieter. Both are solid, so you can't go wrong. Check the local deals, sometimes one brand has a killer bundle.
