So I was browsing at a local hardware store and they had the DeWalt DCF887B 20V Max XR impact driver on clearance for $99! That's like $150 off the regular price. I already have the older DCF885, but this one is brushless and has the detent anvil. Should I grab it or is it overkill for a DIYer like me?

Nah man, that's a steal! I've been using the DCF887 on my renovation projects for the past year and it's a beast. The brushless motor gives it more power and battery life, and the 3-speed settings are super handy. Even for DIY, you won't regret it. I'd say pull the trigger, bro.

I'm a Makita guy myself, but I gotta admit, that's a solid deal. The 887 is one of the best in its class. If you've already got DeWalt batteries, it's a no-brainer. Just make sure it's the real deal and not some refurb that they're selling cheap. Check the SKU and see if it comes with a warranty.

Yeah, it's brand new in the box, factory sealed. I double-checked the model number and it's legit. I think I'm gonna go for it. My wife's gonna kill me though, I still have the old one working fine. But hey, you can never have too many tools, right? lol

Exactly! And if she complains, just say it's an investment. You can even sell the old one to offset the cost. I've done that a few times. Nothing wrong with upgrading your arsenal. Plus, you'll have a backup if the old one goes kaput.
