Just spotted this driver set on sale - too good to be true?

Hey folks, was browsing online and saw a 20-piece precision driver set from a brand called 'ProTorque' for only $29.99 (usually $79). It claims to have hardened steel bits and a magnetic handle. I'm tempted but worried about quality - anyone have experience with this brand? My old set is getting worn and I hate when bits strip out mid-job.

Rick, I'd steer clear of no-name brands. For that price range, you're better off waiting for a DeWalt sale - their 20V XR screwdriver kit was $99 last month at Home Depot. Once you go yellow, you never go back! The torque control alone is worth the extra $. These cheap sets never last.

Actually, I bought a similar budget set last year for small furniture projects. The bits wore out after maybe 50 screws - ended up ruining a nice maple table when one stripped. Learned my lesson! Now I use Wera or Wiha for precision work. Maybe check if there are reviews showing the metal hardness?

Thanks both. Larry - ouch, that maple story hurts! Dan, I love DeWalt too but this is just for light duty/backup. The specs say S2 steel and it has T10-T40 torx which I need for electronics. Might roll the dice and report back... unless someone confirms it's total junk?

If you MUST try it, at least check the return policy. But honestly, for electronics you want Milwaukee's M4 driver - perfect control. Saw it refurbished for $60 last week. My 2 cents: buy once, cry once!
