Hey all, I've got a DeWalt angle grinder (DCG413) that's been acting up. When I put it under load it stalls and makes a grinding noise. Also the battery seems to drain super fast. Any ideas? I'm using it for cutting some rebar and it's driving me nuts.

First off, good choice with the DeWalt! But that noise sounds like it could be the gears. Are you using the right disc? Also, what battery are you using? The DCG413 is a 20V max and if you're using a small 2.0Ah battery, it'll stall under heavy load. Grab a 5.0Ah or FlexVolt and see if that helps. If it's still grinding, might be the gearcase needs grease or the brushes are shot. How old is it?

I've seen this before. If it's stalling and making a grinding noise, it's likely the armature or bearings. Could also be that the disc is binding because you're not holding it at the right angle. Are you forcing it? Let the tool do the work. Also, check if the disc is properly seated and the flange nut is tight. If the battery is draining fast, it might be a bad cell in the pack. How many charge cycles? But honestly, if it's under warranty, just take it back. DeWalt's customer service is pretty good.

Had the same issue with my Makita. Turned out the brushes were worn down to nothing. Replaced them and it ran like new. But if it's a brushless model, then it's probably the electronics. Is it the DCG413? That's brushless, right? Then it's likely the controller or the motor. Could be expensive. If it's under 3 years, DeWalt will fix it. Otherwise, might be time for a new one. Also, make sure you're not using a damaged extension cord if you're running it off AC. But since it's battery, ignore that. Let us know what you find.

Thanks for the replies. It's the brushless model. I bought it about a year ago, so still under warranty. I'll try a bigger battery first, but if that doesn't work, I'll contact DeWalt. The noise is coming from the gear area, so maybe it needs grease? I'll open it up and check. Appreciate the help!
