Hey everyone, I'm building a new deck next weekend and need to cut a bunch of pressure-treated 5/4 deck boards. I've only used a circular saw before, but I've heard grinders can make quick work of this. What's a good angle grinder for a DIYer on a budget? Don't want to spend more than $100 if possible.

For deck boards, a grinder with a wood cutting blade (like a Diablo) works great. I'd recommend a Makita 9557PB for around $90. It's got enough power and it's not too heavy. But honestly, for just deck boards, a circular saw is fine. A grinder is overkill unless you're doing curves or plunge cuts.

If you go the grinder route, get a 7-1/4" one with a diamond blade for clean cuts. But be careful with kickback. I prefer a track saw for precision, but that's more money. For $100, the DeWalt DWE402 is solid. Just make sure you use a proper wood-cutting guard.

I've cut miles of decking with a grinder. Get the Bosch 1375A - it's $60 and bulletproof. Pair it with a Diablo 4-1/2" pruning blade. It'll zip through those boards. Just watch the scoring! Safety glasses and gloves. Don't forget earplugs.

Honestly, for a deck, I'd stick with a circular saw. A grinder is messy - lots of dust and risk of kickback. If you're set on one, the Ridgid R95105 is $80 with a lifetime warranty. But if you can, borrow a friend's circular saw instead.
