Hey guys, I'm planning on building a 12x16 deck this summer. I need to cut a bunch of pressure treated lumber and some metal flashing. I don't have a grinder yet. Should I go corded or cordless? Looking for something that won't break the bank but still gets the job done. Any recommendations?

If you're on a budget and don't mind a cord, get the Harbor Freight Bauer 4.5" grinder. It's like $30 and works fine for occasional use. I've used mine for years on decks and sheds. Cordless is nice but you'll spend $150+ on a decent one.

I gotta disagree Rick. Cordless is the way to go for a deck. You don't wanna trip over cords on a jobsite. My DeWalt DCG412B with a 5Ah battery lasts all day. Pricy but worth it. If you're set on corded, get a Makita 9557PB. It's around $70.

For a deck build, I'd say get a corded grinder with a variable speed if you can. You'll be cutting and grinding, and variable speed helps with control. Check out the Bosch GWS8-45V. It's about $100 and has vibration control. Also, get a flap disc for smoothing edges.

Thanks everyone! I think I'll go with the corded Makita from Dan's suggestion, and grab a flap disc like Larry said. Rick, I might get that Harbor Freight one for backup. Appreciate the help!
