Hey all, I'm building a 12x16 deck and need to cut about 250 2x6 boards. I have a circular saw but thinking about getting an angle grinder with a cut-off wheel for faster ripping. Or should I just rent a cut-off saw? Budget is tight but I want clean cuts. Thoughts?

Angle grinder for ripping? That's a mistake. You'll burn through wheels and the cuts won't be square. Stick with a circular saw and a good blade. For crosscuts, a miter saw would be better. But if you're set on an angle grinder, get a diamond blade and take light passes.

I restored an old barn last summer and used an angle grinder to cut through nails and bolts but for lumber? No way. Rent a cut-off saw if you need to rip a lot, but honestly, a circular saw with a rip blade will do fine. Mark your cuts with a chalk line for consistency.

Precision is key. I'd never use an angle grinder for deck boards. The kerf is too wide and you'll get binding. Use a circular saw with a 24-tooth carbide blade. Set up a guide rail for straight cuts. If you have to buy something, get a track saw; it's worth the investment for a pro-looking deck.
