Hey everyone! I'm in the market for a new angle grinder and I'm torn between DeWalt and Makita. I mainly do metal cutting and some grinding on small projects around the house. I've seen good reviews for both, but I wanted to hear from real users. Any thoughts on which one is better for the money? Thanks!

Tim, I've used both extensively. For sheer power and durability, Makita is hard to beat. Their 4-1/2" grinder is a workhorse. DeWalt's is no slouch either, but Makita's seems to handle bogging down better under heavy load. Also, Makita has a longer cord and the side handle is more comfortable. I'd go Makita if it's in your budget.

I agree with Pete. But also think about safety features. Both have electronic brakes, but Makita's is more responsive in my experience. Also, check the guard design – Makita's tool-free guard is easier to adjust, which encourages you to use it properly. Safety first, especially with grinders. And don't forget PPE – I always wear a face shield and gloves.

I'll jump in here. I've owned both, and honestly, for home use, either will serve you well. But one thing to consider is the paddle switch vs slide switch. DeWalt has a paddle switch on some models that some prefer for safety (you have to keep it depressed). Makita's slide switch can stay on, which is convenient but can be a hazard if you're not careful. I personally like the paddle for safety. Also, check the handle placement – DeWalt's handle is more angled, which helps in tight spots.

Thanks guys! Great points. I think I'm leaning towards Makita for the power and safety features, but I'll definitely check the handle and switch options. Appreciate the advice!
