Hey guys, I'm looking to buy my first angle grinder for cutting metal and some tile. I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt DWE402 or the Makita GA4530. Both are around the same price. I mostly do weekend projects, no pro use. Which one would you pick and why?

I've owned both. The Makita is lighter and more compact, great for one-handed use. The DeWalt has more power and feels sturdier. For weekend stuff, you'd be fine with either, but if you ever plan to use it for extended periods, the Makita's ergonomics win. Also, Makita's paddle switch is easier to use with gloves.

Go with the DeWalt. It's usually cheaper on sale, and parts are everywhere. I've had my DWE402 for 3 years, dropped it off a ladder, and it still runs. Makita's are good but overpriced for what you get. Save the extra cash for blades.

DeWalt all the way! The DWE402 has a better dust ejection system and the spindle lock is more durable. My friend's Makita spindle lock failed after a year. Plus, DeWalt's warranty is easier to deal with. Just my 2 cents.

I'll add that if you're cutting tile, look into a grinder with a soft start feature to prevent kickback. Neither of those have it, so be careful. Maybe consider a variable speed model if budget allows. But for general metal cutting, both are solid.
