Hey folks, looking to upgrade my old angle grinder and stuck between DeWalt and Makita. I mostly do woodworking projects (cutting, shaping, some metal work) in my garage on weekends. DeWalt's 20V MAX looks solid, but Makita's 18V LXT gets great reviews too. Anyone have experience with both? Budget around $150-200. Thanks!

Im an apprentice electrician and we use Makita grinders on site alot. They hold up pretty good to daily abuse, batteries last a decent while. The brushless ones are worth the extra $ imo. DeWalt is good too but ive seen a couple die after a year of heavy use. Makita feels more balanced in hand for overhead work.

Professional contractor here - I've run crews for 15 years. For DIY, you can't go wrong with either, but consider your existing battery ecosystem. If you already have DeWalt or Makita tools, stick with that brand. Makita's service network is slightly better in my area, and their grinders have better dust management if you're doing indoor work. DeWalt's trigger response is a bit more aggressive, which some prefer for metal.

Thanks both! I dont have any cordless tools yet so starting fresh. Sarah842 - dust management is a good point, my garage gets messy quick. SocketSarah522 - hows the noise level on the Makita? My neighbors already hate my table saw lol.

Lol feel you on the noise. The Makita isnt too bad, quieter than some cheap brands. But tbh all grinders are loud - get good ear protection regardless! If youre starting fresh, maybe check which brand has more tools you might want later. Makita has a wider 18v lineup for woodworking stuff like sanders and routers.
