Hey everyone, looking to upgrade my grinder setup for some woodworking projects (mostly shaping and smoothing). I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt DWE402 and Makita GA4530. Both seem solid, but I'm torn. Anyone have experience with either? I'm leaning DeWalt because my drill is from them and it's been a tank, but I've heard Makita grinders are smoother. Thoughts?

I've owned both! The DeWalt is a beast - super powerful, feels like it could grind through anything. But honestly, for woodworking, I prefer the Makita. It's lighter, vibrates less, and the trigger feels more precise when you're doing detailed work. My DeWalt now lives in my metalworking corner. If you're doing heavy-duty stuff, maybe go DeWalt, but for wood, Makita all the way.

Check the price tags, folks! Makita's usually $20-30 cheaper where I shop. Both will get the job done for DIY projects. I've had a basic Makita for 3 years now - no issues. Unless you're running a pro shop, save the cash for more sandpaper or blades. Just my two cents!

Thanks both! Pete, that's super helpful about the vibration - I do a lot of hand-held work so that matters. Larry, good point on price... but I'm willing to spend a bit more if it's worth it long-term. Anyone know about warranty/service differences? Heard DeWalt's service centers are more common.

Warranty's 3 years for both last I checked. Honestly, I've never needed service on either - they're both built well. If you go Makita, get the one with the paddle switch (GA4530), not the slide switch. Much safer when you're focused on your workpiece. Let us know what you pick!
