Hey guys, just had a close call. Was cutting some tile with my 4-1/2" angle grinder and the disc exploded. Lucky I had a full face shield and gloves on, but man the shrapnel hit hard. Check your discs for cracks before you use 'em and always wear your PPE. I'm still shaking.

Glad you're ok Steve! That's no joke. I always run my discs up to speed before they touch the workpiece, and make sure the guards in place. Tye of disc matters too - cheap ones are more likely to explode. What brand was it?

It was a no-name brand I picked up at a flea market. Thought I was saving a few bucks. Lesson learned, stick with name brands like Diablo or Norton from now on. And yeah, guard was on but I had the shield down - saved my face.

Oof, that's scary. I'm new to grinders and always nervous about kickback or discs shattering. Do you guys use a specific type of face shield or just safety glasses? I've been using glasses but now I'm thinking I need a full shield.

Sparky, get a full face shield that fits over your glasses if you wear em. I use a 3M Speedglas one. Also, make sure the disc RPM rating is higher than your grinder's max. And Steve, bet you always check the date code now too - old discs get brittle.
