Hey folks, just had a close call with my angle grinder. A cutting disc shattered and a piece flew right at my face - luckily I had my safety glasses on, but they got scratched up. I'm now thinking about getting a face shield. Do you guys wear one? And any recommendations?

Tim, glad you're okay! In my 30 years of carpentry, I've seen too many accidents. I always wear a full face shield over my safety glasses. It's non-negotiable for me. I've had discs explode and debris bounce off the shield. It saved my face more than once. Get a good one with anti-fog coating, it's worth it.

Pete's right. I'm a garage guy, and I always use a face shield when grinding or cutting. I once had a grinder kickback and the wheel caught my cheek - lucky it was just a bruise. Since then, I use a shield every time. Also, make sure it's snug - I use a mesh one sometimes when it's hot, but the clear plastic ones block more debris.

I'll add to that - don't forget ear protection too! Grinders are loud and the high-pitched whine can damage your hearing. I wear ear muffs along with the shield. And Tim, check your discs for cracks before use - that might have been the issue. Better safe than sorry!

Great advice, everyone. I'll definitely get a face shield and maybe some ear muffs. I think the disc was fine, but I'll be more careful checking them. Thanks for the tips! Stay safe out there.
