Hey everyone, just wanted to share a quick safety tip after a scary incident. I was using my angle grinder without a face shield, just safety glasses, and a knot of wire from the wire wheel flew off and hit me right in the cheek. Luckily it missed my eye, but it left a nasty cut. I know it's a pain, but please wear a full face shield or at least safety goggles that wrap around. Your eyes are irreplaceable. Stay safe out there!

Dang SocketSarah, glad you're okay! I've had close calls too. I always wear a face shield now, but I also invested in a good respirator. The dust from cutting metal or concrete is no joke either. Anyone have recommendations for a face shield that doesn't fog up? Mine fogs up like crazy when I'm grinding.

Great advice Sarah. I've been collecting grinders for years and I've seen all sorts of accidents. My rule is: if you're not wearing gloves, ear protection, and a face shield, you're not ready to turn on the grinder. Also, make sure your disc is rated for the RPM of your grinder. I had a cheap disc explode on me once - scary stuff. Better safe than sorry!

Oh yeah, I've had a disc explode too! Scared the crap out of me. That's why I only buy from reputable brands now. And for fogging, I found that applying a little dish soap to the inside of the shield and wiping it off helps. Or you can get one with a vent. Stay safe everyone!

Good point about the respirator, DrillMaster. I should have mentioned that too. And Pete, you're right about checking the RPM - I'm guilty of not doing that all the time. Just goes to show we all need reminders. Thanks for the support guys - let's keep our faces and fingers intact!
