So I was at a pawn shop today and saw a Dewalt DWE402 4-1/2" grinder, barely used, for $40. Normally these go for like $80-90 new. I couldn't resist and grabbed it. It runs smooth, but I'm a bit wary - could it be a counterfeit or something? Or just a lucky find? Anyone else ever score a deal like this and it turned out fine?

Man, $40 for a DWE402 is a steal! I've had mine for years, tough as nails. Just make sure the brushes aren't worn out, and check the bearings for any roughness. If it runs smooth, you're good. Probably someone's garage sale loss. I once got a Milwaukee cordless drill for $20 at a thrift store, works like a champ.

Nice find, but I'd be cautious. Counterfeit power tools are a real thing, especially with popular models. Check the serial number on Dewalt's website, and make sure the safety guard and side handle are original. Also, take it apart and look at the brushes - if they're not genuine, that's a red flag. But if it checks out, you got a bargain!

Thanks guys. I already checked the serial number, seems legit. And the brushes look fine. I tested it with a flap disc on some steel, cuts great. I'm feeling better about it. Now I just need to buy more accessories for it - always the way, right?

Ha, yeah, the tool is the cheap part, it's the wheels and discs that rack up the bill. But you saved enough to grab a few. Enjoy the new grinder!
