Hey all, I've been using my Ryobi drill (one of the 18V One+ ones) for a few months now, and suddenly the battery won't charge. I've tried plugging it into the charger, and the charger's light stays green (doesn't turn red). I've also tried a different battery and it works fine, so the drill is fine. It's just this one battery. Any ideas? I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to this stuff.

Tim, that sounds like a dead cell or a bad connection in the battery pack. If you're comfortable opening it up, you might be able to replace the cells, but it's often cheaper to just buy a new one. Before you do that, try cleaning the contacts on both the battery and charger with a bit of rubbing alcohol. Sometimes they get corroded and cause issues. Also, make sure the charger is fully seated on the terminals.

I had a similar thing happen to a NiCad battery ages ago. It turned out the charger was the problem, but you said other batteries work fine, so that's ruled out. Yeah, I'd say give the contacts a good clean, and if that doesn't work, it might be time for a replacement. Those Ryobi batteries are pretty affordable when on sale. Check out the aftermarket ones if you're on a budget, but make sure they're compatible.

Just a safety note: if you decide to open up that battery, be careful. Lithium-ion batteries can be dangerous if punctured or shorted. Also, never try to force a charge if the battery is hot or swollen. If it's swollen, dispose of it properly and get a new one. But yeah, cleaning the contacts is a good first step. If that doesn't work, and you're not comfortable with the electronics, just replace it. It's not worth risking a fire.

Thanks for the tips, guys! I'll try cleaning the contacts tonight. If that doesn't work, I'll probably just buy a new battery. I was just hoping I could save some money. But better safe than sorry, right? Thanks again!
