Building a backyard shed - what tools do I really need?

Hey everyone, planning to build a 10x12 shed in my backyard this spring. I've got some basic tools (hammer, cordless drill, circular saw) but want to make sure I'm properly equipped. What specific tools would you recommend for framing, roofing, and finishing? Trying to balance quality with budget - don't want to buy stuff I'll only use once!

OP, you're gonna want precision here. For framing: get a GOOD miter saw - I recommend the Makita LS1019L for perfect 90-degree cuts every time. Don't cheap out on a square either - Swanson's Speed Square is worth every penny. For roofing angles, a digital angle finder is essential if you want those shingles to line up perfectly. And measure twice, cut once - laser distance measurer will save you so much headache!

Before you even think about tools, OP - SAFETY FIRST! You'll need: safety glasses that actually fit (not those cheap flimsy ones), hearing protection (roofing nail guns are LOUD), and a good respirator for cutting pressure-treated wood. Also get a sturdy ladder with levelers for the roof work - I've seen too many DIYers try to balance on wobbly setups. And PLEASE use GFCI outlets for any corded tools outdoors!

Oh man, shed building is the perfect excuse to expand the collection! For framing: DeWalt's 20V Max XR framing nailer is a beast. Roofing: Their cordless roofing nailer saves so much time vs hauling a compressor around. And since you mentioned budget - check out DeWalt's combo kits, you can often get the drill/driver, circular saw, and impact driver together for less than buying separately. Pro tip: Buy once, cry once on the battery platform!

Thanks all! Pete - hadn't thought about the digital angle finder but that makes sense. Wendy - good call on the respirator, I always forget about the treated wood dust. Dan - those combo deals do look tempting... Might have to convince the wife this is an 'investment' lol. Anyone have thoughts on whether I need a table saw or if my circular saw with guide will suffice for the plywood sheets?
