Thinking about getting a cordless push mower. I'm a contractor so I've got tons of DeWalt 20v batteries. But I've heard Makitas are better for cutting grass. What do you guys think? Is it worth starting a new battery system? My yard is about 1/3 acre, nothing crazy.

I'm just a apprentice but I've used both at my uncle's place. We ran a DeWalt and a Makita side by side. The Makita felt smoother and the cut was cleaner, especially on wet grass. But it's heavy and the batteries are pricey. If you already got DeWalt, why not try their mower? Save money and batteries.

Honestly DeWalt mowers suck. I've had two and both had blade issues within a season. Makita all the way. Their 36v system is a beast. Yeah it's heavy but it self-propels good. I swapped all my tools to Makita after that. Don't be a battery hoarder, go with the better tool.

Haha "battery hoarder"... ouch. But fair point. The thing is I've got like 8 DeWalt batteries for work tools. I don't want to shell out for a whole new platform just for a mower. Maybe I'll try the DeWalt and if it fails, that's when I switch. Thanks for the input guys.

That's what my uncle did. He started with DeWalt, had some issues, then got a Makita. Now he's got two battery systems but he loves both. Might be a luxury problem but if you got the cash, go for it. Just check the warranty on the DeWalt first.
