Hey guys, I'm in the market for a new string trimmer and blower combo for my lawn. I've been looking at the DeWalt 20V and Makita 18V X2 systems. Anyone have experience with both? Which one would you recommend for home use? I already have DeWalt batteries from my drills, but I'm open to switching if Makita is way better.

I've used both professionally. DeWalt is solid, but Makita's brushless motors are more efficient and they run cooler. For lawn care, Makita's X2 (36V) gives more power without the weight. But if you already have DeWalt batteries, that's a huge cost saver. Just make sure you get the brushless models – they're worth it.

I'm a contractor and I've switched from Makita to DeWalt for everything, including yard tools. The DeWalt 20V Max 13-inch string trimmer is a beast, and the blower is powerful. The batteries last long enough for most residential jobs. Plus, having one battery platform for all my tools is a game changer. I'd say stick with DeWalt if you're already invested.

True, battery platform is key. But remember, DeWalt 20V is actually 18V nominal, same as Makita 18V. The X2 is where Makita gets the edge in power. If your lawn is small, DeWalt will handle it. But if you have a big yard, you might want the extra kick from the 36V.

Thanks for the input! My yard is about a quarter acre, so not huge. I think I'll stick with DeWalt since I already have the batteries. Appreciate the advice!
