DeWalt vs Makita for lawn care tools - which brand would you pick for a new mower?

OP here - looking to upgrade my old gas mower and trying to decide between DeWalt and Makita. I've always been a DeWalt guy for my power tools (drills, saws, etc.) but not sure if that translates to lawn care. Anyone have experience with either brand's electric mowers? Budget around $500-700.

Hey Steve! I'm just an apprentice but we use Makita at our shop for everything. The boss swears by their 36V lawn mower - says it's way quieter than gas and the batteries last forever. I've used it a few times and it cuts really clean. Plus if you already have Makita batteries from other tools, they're compatible!

30-year contractor here. Both brands make solid equipment, but for lawn care specifically, I'd lean DeWalt. Their 20V MAX system has more torque for thick grass, and their self-propelled models are built like tanks. Makita's good for light residential use, but if you've got uneven terrain or wet grass, DeWalt handles it better. Check the warranty too - DeWalt's is usually longer.

Woodworker here so I'm picky about precision! I own both brands for different tools. For mowing, I actually prefer Makita - the cut is more consistent, especially on my small suburban lawn. The DeWalt felt overpowered for my needs. But if you have acreage or tough conditions, go DeWalt. What's your lawn size, Steve?

Thanks all! Larry - it's about 1/4 acre, mostly flat but some slopes. Tim's point about torque has me thinking... maybe I'll test both at Home Depot. Carl - good tip about battery compatibility, but I'm DeWalt battery ecosystem already. Anyone know if DeWalt's mower batteries work with their other tools?
