Hey folks, so I've got this EGO 56V mower that's been running great for a solid 2 years. Last weekend I went to charge the battery and the charger just blinks red, won't charge. I've tried another battery and it charges fine, so it's the battery not the charger. Any ideas before I drop $200 on a new one?

Classic issue. Most likely a dead cell. But before you shell out cash, try this: if the battery has been sitting in the cold, let it warm up to room temp and try again. If that doesn't work, check the terminals for corrosion – a little baking soda and water mix on a toothbrush works wonders. Also, make sure the charger is plugged into a surge protector, sometimes these chargers get finicky.

I had the same thing happen with my Ryobi. Turned out the battery just needed a good 'deep discharge' reset. You know, drain it completely by running the mower until it stops, then charge it fully. That worked for me, but took a couple of cycles. Might be worth a shot before buying new.

If it's still under warranty, definitely check that first. EGO has a 5-year warranty on batteries I think. I had a battery replaced for free last year. Otherwise, if it's out of warranty, try the reset trick but also check if the charger is giving out the right voltage. I have a multimeter, I can test it for you if you're nearby, but if not, there's videos on YouTube.

Thanks all! I'll check the terminals and try the deep discharge. It's been pretty cold here, so that might be it. If not, I'll check warranty. Appreciate the quick replies!
