Hey all, I've got a DeWalt 20V max drill and the battery just wont charge. I plug it in and the light on the charger blinks red/green for a second then goes solid red. I've tried both batteries I have. Anyone know what's going on? It's not that old, maybe 6 months. Thanks!

Hey Dave, that blinking red/green is usually a sign of a connection issue or a bad cell in the battery pack. If you have a multimeter, check the voltage on the battery terminals. Should be around 18-20V for a fully charged 20V max. If it's way low, like 2-3V, you might have a dead cell. Could also be the charger's contacts are dirty. Try cleaning the contacts on both the battery and charger with some rubbing alcohol and a q-tip.

I've seen this before. Also check if the battery is hot. If you just used it hard, let it cool down. Some chargers won't charge if battery is too hot. But if it's both batteries, might be the charger itself. Try a different charger if you can. Also, check the charger's power cord and outlet. Sometimes it's the simple stuff.

Could also be a firmware issue with the charger? Unplug the charger, hold the battery release button on the charger (if it has one), and plug it back in. I read that resets some chargers. But yeah, test with a multimeter. If you're not getting voltage, you might be able to revive it by jumping it with a good battery, but that's advanced. If it's under warranty, call DeWalt.

Thanks for the tips! I'll try cleaning the contacts and checking the voltage. I also have a second charger from a friend, so I'll test that. If it's the batteries, I might just buy a new pair - they're not that expensive. Appreciate the help!
