Hey folks, I'm in the market for a new laser level. I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt self-leveling green beam and the Makita red beam. I do a mix of electrical and plumbing work, plus some basic home inspections. I like the DeWalt's green beam visibility, but I've heard Makita's build is more durable. Anyone have hands-on experience with these? What would you pick?

I've been using Makita laser levels for years. The red beam can be tough in bright light, but the durability is top-notch. Dropped mine off a ladder once, still works fine. If you're mostly indoors, you'll be fine with either. But if you're going to be in daylight, green is easier to see. DeWalt's green beam is pretty sweet, but I'm a Makita guy through and through.

Makita all the way, no question. I've had the same Makita laser level for a decade, and it's been through hell. DeWalt is for weekend warriors. A real pro needs something that can take a beating. Green beam is nice, but red does the job if you know how to use it. Just my two cents.

I'm with Paul on the durability, but you gotta think about the work you do. For plumbing, I'm often in dark crawlspaces, so visibility isn't a huge issue. But for inspections, I need something that works in various lighting. I ended up with the Bosch green beam, honestly. But between those two, I'd say go green for visibility. DeWalt's warranty is good too. Just make sure you calibrate it regularly.

Thanks for the input, guys. I'm leaning towards the green beam because I do a lot of work in basements and attics with poor lighting, but also some outdoor work. Maybe I'll go DeWalt and just be careful with it. Appreciate the help!
