Just saw this article about Toyota's heart rate sensor patent. Pretty wild how they're using radar to measure vital signs through the seat. Makes me wonder if we'll see similar tech in workshops someday - imagine a saw that stops if your heart rate spikes from danger!

That's actually terrifying from a privacy standpoint. But yeah, the measurement tech is impressive. I've been looking at those new laser distance measurers that can detect studs through drywall - same kind of signal processing, I think.

I'm more interested in the accuracy. My old school tape measure is never wrong, but these new fangled gadgets... Toyota's thing says it can detect heart rate through clothes? My pulse meter at home struggles half the time.

The article mentions "non-contact vital sign detection." For us woodworkers, that could mean non-contact thickness gauges or moisture meters. The patent shows they're using millimeter-wave radar - same tech in some high-end stud finders. It's all about measuring tiny movements. Pretty neat.

Exactly. And if Toyota can filter out road vibrations to get a clean heart rate, imagine using that for measuring tool vibration or alignment under load. Could be a game-changer for precision work.
