Hey all! I'm building a deck this weekend and I need a good laser level to make sure the beams are perfectly level. I've been looking at a few, but I'm not sure which one to get. Any suggestions? I'd prefer something that's not too expensive but still reliable.

Man, for deck work, you don't need a fancy rotary laser. A simple cross-line laser will do the trick. I've got a Bosch GLL 30, and it's been solid for years. Cheap, compact, and the lines are bright even in sunlight. Stick with that and you'll be golden.

I get where Felix is coming from, but if you want something that's gonna last and be accurate, invest a bit more. I use the Makita SK105D self-leveling laser on my job sites. It's tough, the green laser is way more visible, and it has a plumb spot which helps with posts. Trust me, deck framing is no joke – you want accurate lines. It's a bit pricier but worth every penny.

I've been restoring old houses for years, and I've used all sorts of levels. For a deck, I'd actually recommend a good old-fashioned string line and a bubble level. Lasers are cool, but they can be finicky in bright sunlight – the line might wash out. But if you're set on a laser, the DeWalt DW089K is a beast. I've dropped mine a few times and it still holds calibration. Just my two cents though – you can't go wrong with a string and a 4-foot level for the initial layout.

Thanks for the input, guys. I think I'm gonna look into the Makita SK105D – green laser sounds like it would be a game changer. Also, Dan, good point about the string line, I'll have a backup just in case. Appreciate the help!
