Hey all, just a friendly reminder to always wear safety glasses when using measuring tools, especially tape measures. I was cutting some wood and the tape snapped back, nearly got my eye. Lucky I had glasses on. Anyone else have close calls?

Good tip Tim! I always wear safety glasses even for simple measurements. You never know when a hook or blade might slip. Also, make sure your glasses are ANSI rated for impact. I've seen cheap ones shatter.

Preach it! I had a tape measure spring out and hit my cheek once. Not fun. Now I use a locking tape measure and always keep my face out of the path of the tape. Also, if you're using a laser measure, those can be dangerous too - never look directly into the beam.

Haha, I've been there. Been using tools for 30 years, and I still get surprised. I always keep a spare pair of safety glasses in my toolbox, because I tend to misplace them. Also, invest in a good brand - my old pair scratched up my vision, so now I go for anti-fog ones.
