Hey folks, DeWaltDan821 here. Just wanted to share a quick safety tip I see overlooked a lot. When using measuring tools like tape measures or calipers, especially in dusty environments, don't forget eye protection! I've seen metal shavings or wood chips fly up and cause injuries. Also, if you're using laser measures, make sure you're not pointing them at anyone's eyes - those things are no joke. Stay safe out there!

Good point Dan! I'm a contractor and I've had my share of close calls. One thing I always stress to my crew: wear gloves when handling metal rulers or squares. Those edges can be sharp, and if you're rushing, it's easy to get a nasty cut. Also, keep your measuring tools clean - a dirty tape measure can slip and cause accidents. Anyone else have tips?

As a woodworking hobbyist, I totally agree! I once got a splinter from an old wooden ruler - hurt like crazy! Now I always sand the edges of my wooden measuring tools. Also, for laser levels, I make sure the area is clear of trip hazards. Almost took a tumble last month when I wasn't paying attention to my cords. What about you, Pete? You collect tools - ever come across any vintage measuring gear with safety issues?

Great thread! Yeah, I've got some old measuring tapes that have rusty blades - definitely not safe to use. I display them but don't operate them. One thing I'd add: if you're using digital calipers, check the batteries regularly. A dying battery can give inaccurate readings, and that's a safety risk if precision matters. Also, store your tools properly - a cluttered workspace is an accident waiting to happen!
