Just saw this article about Toyota patenting a heart rate detector for vehicles, among other things. Seem like measuring tech is going beyond the workshop. What do you all think? Is this the future of DIY diagnostics or just overkill?

Interesting stuff, but I'm more into practical measuring tools. Heart rate in a car? Might help if you're having a heart attack, but for measuring, I'll stick to my laser measure and levels. Though, I gotta admit, the tech is cool.

Reminds me of when I started. We had tape measures and squares. Now they have digital calipers that can measure to a thousandth. But heart rate? That's a different ball game. Might be useful for monitoring stress levels, but I'd rather have a good old reliable measuring tape.

I hear you, Pete. But think about it - if a car's sensors can detect your heart rate, imagine the possibilities for health monitoring on the go. Could be a game-changer for preventing accidents if the car can detect a medical emergency. But for DIY, maybe not so much.

Good point, Steve. But I wonder about privacy. Who's gonna have access to that data? And what if it's used against you for insurance purposes? Too many what-ifs for me. I'll keep my workshop simple - no heart monitor needed.
