Toyota's heart rate sensor in cars? What's next, a tape measure that checks your pulse?

Saw this article too. Toyota's been messing around with driver monitoring for years. A heart rate sensor in the steering wheel isn't new, but the patent might be about placement or algo. Still, I wonder if it'll ever make it to production. My old F-150 doesn't even have a backup cam lol.

I'm more interested in the 'more North Texas inventive activity' part. Bet there's some cool measurement gadgets in there. Anyone know if any local shops are making laser distance meters or something? I'm always looking for new toys.

Heart rate detection while driving? Sounds like a safety thing for drowsy drivers. But honestly, I'd rather have a tool that measures exactly how much coffee I need to finish a job. That'd be a real invention! 😂

I don't know, seems like over-engineering. A simple pulse oximeter is cheap. Why put it in a car? But maybe they're using it with other sensors to detect health emergencies. Could be a lifesaver for someone with a heart condition.

True, true. But knowing Toyota, they'll patent it and then never use it. They've got more patents than I have old screwdrivers. Still, cool to see innovation in measurements, even if it's not a tape measure.
