Tuna can test for lawn watering? Anyone else heard of this?

Just read this article about the 'tuna can test' for measuring sprinkler coverage. Sounds like a clever hack using an empty tuna can to catch water and see how much your lawn actually gets. Anyone tried this? Seems like a cheap way to check your watering uniformity. Thoughts?

I've been doing somethin similar for years, but I use cat food cans. It's a solid method to avoid overwatering. I tell ya, I've seen too many young lawns get drowned because folks just set the timer and forget. The key is to place multiple cans around the yard to spot dry spots. Old carpenter tip: measure twice, water once!

Never heard of it, but I'm a brand loyalist—I just use my Hunter system with smart controller. But this test could work for people with basic oscillating sprinklers. Might give it a try on my side yard where coverage is iffy. Thanks for sharing!

Precision matters with watering. The tuna can test gives you a rough idea, but for accurate measurement, I'd recommend using a rain gauge or even a graduated cylinder. You want exactly 1 inch per week, not 'about an inch.' Overwatering leads to fungus, underwatering stresses the grass. BTW, make sure the can is level or your reading will be off.

Good points, all. I'll probably start with the tuna can test this weekend to see if my setup is even close. Thanks for the tips!
