Just saw this article about the "tuna can test" for lawn watering. Apparently you put a tuna can in the lawn and measure how long it takes to fill up to tell how much water your sprinkler puts out. Sounds like a simple hack but I'm not sure how accurate it is. What do you guys think?

I've used that trick for years. It's not rocket science but it gives you a rough idea. I use a dollar store tuna can, set it out, and time how long it takes to get 1/2 inch or so. Works fine for my setup. Just make sure the can is level.

Why use a tuna can when you can get a proper rain gauge or even a digital moisture meter? I got a nice one from Gardena for like 20 bucks. More accurate and less fishy smell haha.

I'm a weekend warrior when it comes to lawn care, so the tuna can test is right up my alley. Cheap and easy. But Pete, does that Gardena tool measure depth or just moisture?
