Just read this article about the tuna can test for lawn watering. Never heard of it, but sounds interesting. Anyone tried it? Seems like a cheap way to check sprinkler coverage.

I've used it for years! Simple and effective. Just place a few tuna cans around the lawn, run your sprinkler for 15 mins, then check the water depth. I aim for about 1/4 inch. Works great.

I'm a bit more precise than that. I use a rain gauge, but the tuna can works if you're careful. Just make sure the cans are level and not under trees. Also, check multiple spots. Overwatering kills more lawns than underwatering.

Back in my day we used coffee cans. Tuna cans are too small, you need something with straight sides. But the principle is solid. I say go for it, just use a bigger can if you have it.
