Hey guys, I'm building a deck this weekend and need some pliers. I already have a hammer and circular saw, but I'm missing a good pair for pulling nails and bending wire. What do you recommend?

For deck work, you can't beat a good set of linesman pliers. I've used the same Klein pair for 20 years. Great for twisting wire and pulling nails if you don't have a cat's paw. Also grab some tongue-and-groove pliers for tightening bolts.

If you're on a budget, Harbor Freight has decent pliers for cheap. Their Doyle brand is actually solid. I got a 3-pack for like $15. Not as tough as Klein but they'll last a few projects.

I agree with Paul, but also get a pair of needle nose for tight spots. And if you're doing any electrical, get insulated ones. I've zapped myself with cheap pliers before, not fun.

Don't forget a pair of diagonal cutters for trimming wire or nails. I used my dad's old Craftsman ones for years. Also, keep a file handy to sharpen the cutting edges if they get dull.
