Hey folks, starting a deck build next week and need some plier recommendations. I've got a bunch of 2x6s and composite decking. What types should I get? I've got basic stuff but want to upgrade.

For decking, you can't go wrong with a good pair of diagonal cutters for snipping nails/screws, and some heavy-duty linesman's pliers for twisting tie wire. Klein or Knipex are solid.

I'd add a pair of long-nose pliers with a wire cutter built in. Handy for tight spots under the deck. Also, consider a pair of locking pliers (Vise-Grips) for clamping.

For decking, I always use a combination plier (like Channellock) for pulling nails and gripping. Don't forget a nail puller or cat's paw though. Pliers alone won't cut it.

Make sure you get insulated pliers if you're working near any electrical. I like Klein's Journeyman series. Also, a good pair of cable cutters if you're running any wires for lights.
