Hey folks! I'm about to build a deck in my backyard and I need to pick up some pliers. I've got a basic set but nothin fancy. What should I get for framing, cutting wire, and maybe pulling nails? Budget is tight but I want quality.

For a deck, you don't need a ton of pliers. I'd grab a good pair of linesman pliers for cutting and twisting wire, and a set of slip-joints for general use. Avoid the cheapo sets, spend a little extra for something like Channellock or Klein. You'll thank me later.

Definately get a pair of knipex cobra pliers if you can afford em. They grip like crazy for pulling nails or adjusting stuff. Also, a set of needle nose for tight spots. Don't forget a wire cutter too. I use my pliers on every deck job.

I've got like 20 pairs of pliers, but for a deck I'd say: linesman pliers (Klein), a 10-in adjustable wrench (Crescent), and a good old fencing pliers. They pull nails like a champ and have a hammer head on the back. My fave is the Vaughan.
