Hey guys, just got a pair of Knipex Cobras and they make a grinding sound when opening/closing. Is this normal? Should I return them?

Grinding noise? Check the rivet area for metal shavings or debris. Also make sure the jaws aren't rubbing against each other. A little bit of break-in can be normal, but if it's really rough, I'd exchange them. Safety first!

Knipex are top-tier, but even they can have defects. I'd return them for another pair. Their warranty is great. Don't settle for less.

I had the same issue with a cheap pair from Harbor Freight. I just oiled the pivot and it stopped. Maybe try a drop of oil before returning?

Oiling is a good idea, but if they're brand new and expensive like Knipex, I'd just swap them. No need to mess with lubricant on a new tool. Save the oil for your old beaters.
