Building a deck – need pliers for railing and framing

Hey guys, starting a deck project next weekend. I need to cut and twist tie wire for railing, and maybe some framing. What kind of pliers should I get? I've got a basic toolbox but nothing fancy.

For tie wire, you'll want a good pair of lineman's pliers. Klein or Knipex are top notch. They can cut, twist, and grip. Don't bother with multitools – get dedicated linemans. I've used mine for years.

And wear gloves! Wire ends are sharp. Also, get some safety glasses. Deck building is fun but one slip and you'll regret it. For pliers, I second lineman's. Maybe add a set of locking pliers (vice grips) for stubborn bolts.

I love my Knipex Cobras for deck work. They adjust quick and grip like crazy. For wire, I use Klein side cutters – they cut clean. But yeah, linemans are the workhorse. Harbor freight has cheap ones if your budget is tight, but spend a little more for comfort.

If you want to go old school, get a pair of wood handled pliers from a flea market. But seriously, get the Knipex 9 inch high leverage cutters. They're pricey but you'll have them forever. For decking, also consider a ratcheting crimper if you're doing any connectors.
