Building a shed: What pliers do I really need?

Hey folks, I'm finally building that 12x16 shed I've been planning for years. Got the lumber, the nails, and a borrowed framing nailer. But I realized my tool collection is lacking in the plier department. I've got the basic slip-joints but nothing specialized. What pliers should I pick up for framing, cutting ties, and maybe some electrical work? Don't wanna overbuy but don't wanna get stuck mid-project either. Thanks!

For framing, you'll want a good pair of end nippers for cutting off excess nail tips and those pesky wire ties. Also, a set of linesman pliers for twisting and cutting wire if you're doing any electrical. And don't forget a solid pair of needle-nose for tight spots. I'd say get a 3-pack of Channellock: 8-inch linesman, 6-inch needle-nose, and 8-inch end nippers. That should cover most of what you need without breaking the bank.

I'd add a pair of tongue-and-groove pliers (like Channellocks) for gripping odd-sized stuff. Also, a good set of diagonal cutters (dikes) for cutting wire and small nails. And if you're doing any plumbing in the shed, a dedicated pipe wrench or two. But for just building the frame, Wendy's got you covered. Oh, and get some nicopress pliers if you're doing cable railing or something, but that's a maybe.

You guys are overcomplicating it. For a basic shed build, a pair of 10-inch slip-joint pliers and a set of side cutters will handle 90% of what you'll do. I've built three sheds with just that and a hammer. But if you want to be fancy, get a pair of Knipex Cobras for gripping. They're pricey but worth every penny. And definitely get a good wire stripper if you're running power. Don't skimp on that.

Thanks all! I think I'll go with Wendy's recommendation for the Channellock set and maybe add the Knipex Cobras Dan mentioned for the hell of it. I already have a wire stripper from my electrician buddy. Now I just gotta make sure I don't end up using them to hammer nails... Appreciate the help!
