Hey folks, I'm setting up my home woodworking shop and need some solid pliers. Been looking at DeWalt and Makita - both seem popular but I'm torn. I mostly do furniture projects, so need something that can handle bending wire, pulling nails, and general clamping. Anyone have experience with both brands? Price isn't a huge issue, but I want quality that lasts. Thanks!

Bob, go DeWalt 100%. I've used their linesman pliers for years - the grip is unbeatable and they never rust. Makita makes decent power tools, but hand tools? DeWalt's the pro choice. Their XR series pliers have that comfort grip that saves your hands during long projects. Trust me, once you go yellow, you never go back!

Hold up Dan, that's some serious brand bias lol. Bob - check the specs first. Makita's pliers often have thinner jaws for tight spaces, which matters in woodworking. DeWalt's are beefier but can be clunky. What's the jaw type you need? Also, look at the pivot - smooth action is key. I've stripped both down, and Makita's internals are cleaner IMO. But test them if you can!

Thanks both! Sarah, good point on the jaw thickness - I do work in some cramped spots. Dan, I get the loyalty, DeWalt's never failed me on drills. Anyone know about warranty differences? Saw Makita offers a lifetime on some pliers, but not sure about DeWalt.

DeWalt's warranty is solid - 3 years but they'll usually replace no questions asked. Makita's 'lifetime' often means you gotta jump thru hoops. Bob, think about your whole toolkit too. If you're already invested in one battery system, sticking with that brand's hand tools makes sense. My DeWalt pliers match my drill chucks perfectly!
